If you by any chance want to use YI underwater, you would need a plastic, waterproof housing to protect it. Since the camera is not splash-proof as well, for recording on a rainy day, you need a waterproof case, unless you like having a flooded camera.

One more interesting function of waterproof cases, is that they can serve as a protector from scratches, dust and even smaller drops.

Original Xiaomi Yi 40M Waterproof Case

The first, and probably the most reliable one is the original housing produced by Xiaomi. The price for this particular case ranges from 25-30$. It allows your camera to go up to 40m underwater.

Be aware that there are two versions of this plastic case produced by the manufacturer. They are called new and old one. Old version had some issues with buttons being to sturdy to press, so it has been discontinued and is no longer on sale. New one, offers better experience when pressing the buttons.Additionally buttons on newer edition are made out of aluminum where as the older one were plastic.

New batch also improves the sealing between the backdoor and a case.

Original case dimensions are perfectly matching the camera. Camera does not wiggle at all when being inside and is easy to pull at and slide back in at the same time.

So if your budget allows you to stretch up to 30$ and spend for original one, be sure to buy newer version. Be very careful when buying this case, as plenty of people reported that there are fakes on the market. My advice would be to buy from reputable online stores which sell original Xiaomi products.

When the risk of fakes is high, I can only recommend you GearBest, as they indeed sell only genuine products made by Xiaomi. Fake cases are hard to spot from the images themselves. I have noticed that these copycats are shameless and will even copy a YI logo on them.

Original ones come in factory boxes which are made out of same materials as the one in which camera itself is packed.

While some of them may work like a charm, there is always a risk that they are made out of poor materials and without quality control. If you want my two cents, waterproof case is probably the only piece of gear that should be bought from Xiaomi, unless you are really on a budget.

Unofficial 60M waterproof cases

If you would like to dive slightly deeper underwater, there are two cases made by third party companies. Both advertises that your camera will be perfectly safe for up to 60m in depth.

60M Red Waterproof Case

This case has no particular name or a brand, but is known as one of the most reliable 60m cases according to tests preformed by few divers on various forums. What makes it stand out from original, is not only its color ,but also reddish design.

Buttons on this case are quite easy to press, unlike some others. However there is also a problem with this camera. Its cover sometimes gets loose easily, but once you set it up properly it works OK underwater.

Kingma 60M waterproof case

Kingma case comes in two different colors green and white. The only thing different is the color of case the top cover. It arrives with tripod mount adapter as well.

You should know that besides above listed cases, there are few cheaper ones, but those did not show to be as reliable underwater. However for some rain, or splash protection, any of those should be okay.
