From sjcamguides to Pevly.com
Pevly was born out of our founder's passion for mountaineering and the reality of a limited student budget. Pavle wanted a record of the majestic vistas he encountered but found the name brand cameras of the day to be too expensive. What to do?
It so happened at that time that several manufacturers were moving in on the low-priced end of the market with a number of different cameras. But Pavle was frustrated that little guidance was available about the quality of these cameras or what factors to weigh before buying one. His solution to this problem was the simplest and most direct: Test the cameras yourself!
The most prominent of the inexpensive action camera makers at that time was SJCam, so Pavle decided to concentrate on those. He shared the results of his endeavors on his first website, sjcamguides.com. He tested the cameras and wrote about the results in those first reviews.
However, there were only so many SJCams to test. All the while more camera makers were bringing more cameras to market so why not test some of them? The name itself was causing confusion among readers and manufacturers. Some people thought that the website was an official sjcam store. This meant the sjcamguides name had to go. A new name was needed, and that's how pevly.com was born.
Why Pevly?
But Pevly? Honestly, what kind of name is that? Quite simply, the name Pavle was taken by a broker that wanted to sell it to him for an exorbitant price. This just wouldn't do so Pavle put on his thinking cap. Or should we say madcap, because that's the only way to describe the name Pevly! It's a little bit like Pavle but he gave it an unforgettable twist! Also Pevly appears to be easier to remember and the former audience of sjcamguides.com adapted to new name quickly.
Pevly.com - from one man operation to a team of friends
Soon there were so many action cameras on the market that it was impossible to test the new ones as they came out. That's where the rest of the Pevly team comes in. We were recruited by Pavle to help with camera and accessory reviews and to write other articles and guides.
First to join was Alessio, publisher of a YouTube channel that lays bare the silly drivers in his native Italy. Then Joe came on board as the US point man on the team. Finally Fil joined our team. In him we found a professional photographer with decades of experience to lend a seasoned hand to our team.
