This tiny, low-budget camera gave a headache to all of its competitors by providing excellent value for its low-price. YI camera comes pretty bare-boned. Inside the box, you get an USB charger, manual (on Chinese) and\u00a0 a selfie stick if you bought a travel version.<\/p>\n<p>Oh yeah, you are probably here because you bought this powerful fella, aren&#8217;t you?<\/p>\n<p>Then you know that additional accessories that come inside a box are non-existent.<\/p>\n<p>But do not worry. In the beginning, it was hard to find any original Xiaomi YI gear, but now, with the sales booming, manufacturer released bunch of accessories. Additionally, lots of other companies produce mounts ,screws and even waterproof cases that are compatible with this camera.<\/p>\n<p>In this article, I would like to give you the most extensive list of Xiaomi YI accessories.<\/p>\n<p>So lets get started with a list. To go to next slide, please click orange arrow saying next slide, or press right\/left arrow on your keyboard.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2>Waterproof Case<\/h2>\n<p>If you by any chance want to use YI underwater, you would need a plastic, waterproof housing to protect it. Since the camera is not splash-proof as well, for recording on a rainy day, you need a waterproof case, unless you like having a flooded camera.<\/p>\n<p>One more interesting function of waterproof cases, is that they can serve as a protector from scratches, dust and even smaller drops.<\/p>\n<p>There are variety of waterproof cases available for Xiaomi YI. They come in different, shape, size, materials and price. I will cover few most popular ones, but if you have some that is not on a list, feel free to leave a comment below and let me know how it works for you.<\/p>\n<h3>Original Xiaomi Yi 40M Waterproof Case<\/h3>\n<p>The first, and probably the most reliable one is the original housing produced by Xiaomi. The price for this particular case ranges from 25-30$. It allows your camera to go up to 40m underwater.<\/p>\n<p>Be aware that there are two versions of this plastic case produced by the manufacturer. They are called new and old one. Old version had some issues with buttons being to sturdy to press, so it has been discontinued and is no longer on sale. New one, offers better experience when pressing the buttons.Additionally buttons on newer edition are made out of aluminum where as the older one were plastic.<\/p>\n<p>New batch also improves the sealing between the backdoor and a case.<\/p>\n<p>Original case dimensions are perfectly matching the camera. Camera does not wiggle at all when being inside and is easy to pull at and slide back in at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>So if your budget allows you to stretch up to 30$ and spend for original one, be sure to buy newer version. Be very careful when buying this case, as plenty of people reported that there are fakes on the market. Fake cases are hard to spot from the images themselves. I have noticed that these copycats are shameless and will even copy a YI logo on them.<\/p>\n<p>Original ones come in factory boxes which are made out of same materials as the one in which camera itself is packed.<\/p>\n<p>Box includes :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1x waterproof housing<\/li>\n<li>1x base mount adapter (fits 1\/4<span class=\"st\">\u2033 screw)<\/span><\/li>\n<li>1x screw<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While some of them may work like a charm, there is always a risk that they are made out of poor materials and without quality control. If you want my two cents, waterproof case is probably the only piece of gear that should be bought from Xiaomi, unless you are really on a budget.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/shrsl.com\/?~9oif\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Buy original new version waterproof case here.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Unofficial 60M waterproof cases<\/h3>\n<p>If you would like to dive slightly deeper underwater, there are two cases made by third party companies. Both advertises that your camera will be perfectly safe for up to 60m in depth.<\/p>\n<h4>60M Red Waterproof Case<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/shrsl.com\/?~9vi8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">This case <\/a>has no particular name or a brand, but is known as one of the most reliable 60m cases according to tests preformed by few divers on various forums. What makes it stand out from original, is not only its color ,but also reddish design.<\/p>\n<p>Buttons on this case are quite easy to press, unlike some others. However there is also a problem with this camera. The only thing different is the color of case the top cover. Its main purpose is to prevent your tiny camera from drowning. Yeah really, if you accidentally drop your camera while it being attached to a grip, it will not sink. Okay, so with this logic, do these people do not even need a waterproof case underwater, because the camera is cheap, right? Oh boy.<\/p>\n<p>I am not a diver myself, but when going underwater just for fun, I always use a floating grip. For this particular camera, you can use any.<\/p>\n<p>There is an official one, which is pricier then third party ones.<\/p>\n<p>If you ask me, it does not make huge difference which one you will get. It allows you to control your camera remotely in 10m range. You can change modes and use it as a remote shutter to start\/stop recording video and capture images.<\/p>\n<p>The original Xiaomi YI Bluetooth remote controller can be bought together <a href=\"http:\/\/shrsl.com\/?~9xw9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">with a selfie stick<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/shrsl.com\/?~9xwa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">separately<\/a>. Design of the RC is quite simple. It has two buttons. Mode switch, which switches from photo to video mode, and a shutter button.<\/p>\n<p>You should probably know that this remote controller is not waterproof. Also on the remote itself, you can not see in which mode is camera currently.<\/p>\n<p>Even if you are connected to the app via the WiFi, the controller synchronize very well, so no problem occurs when using WiFi app simultaneously.<\/p>\n<h3>How to pair camera and remote control?<\/h3>\n<p>Before you start, make sure that the firmware on your YI is at least V1.1.0 or above to use the remote. No matter if it cost 6000$ or 60$, it would be stupid not to take care of it, especially if it can be safe for just a dollar or two. There is an insane amount of silicon gel made, both cover case and a lens cap. It can not only\u00a0<span id=\"result_box\" class=\"short_text\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"hps\">cushion the fall<\/span><\/span>, if you drop a camera, but also make it scratch resistant. It is similar to those rubberized cases people use for their mobile phones. Additionally, if you are not a huge fan of YI color, this can make it look stylish.<\/p>\n<p>While silica-gel case is not something I use on every day basis while recording, lens cap is a must. And I seriously mean it. If you crash a lens, you would have to replace it. That can cause a lot of trouble and if you do not know how to do it properly, you would have to buy a new camera.<\/p>\n<p>Nobody wants that, right? Especially if it costs less then a dollar. Lens cap protects F2.8 155\u00b0 wide angle lens, or &#8220;eye&#8221; of your Xiaomi YI camera.<\/p>\n<p>Lens protector comes in different colors as well. They are also available in different materials. I personally prefer ones made out of silica.<\/p>\n<p>| <a href=\"http:\/\/shrsl.com\/?~9xwc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Buy Protective gear for Xiaomi YI here<\/a> |<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2>720 Degree Panoramic View Tripod Bracket<\/h2>\n<p>This is probably the priciest piece of gear you can get. And it only makes sense to buy one if you have 4 YI cameras. Yeah, obviously this is not for average bloke. But for people seriously involved in aerial photography and even 720 degrees videos, this is quite an interesting tool.<\/p>\n<p>Personally I have not used or tested this one, since its bloody expensive. It gives a whole new perspective to these type of videos.<\/p>\n<p>If you are into DIY projects, you can create the poor man version by using an&#8230; wait for it&#8230;. egg timer! Seriously, check <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/V1hKLGwmLM0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">this <\/a>out. Of course, it might not be as good as the one you buy, but it will certainly do decent job for most people.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/shrsl.com\/?~9oij\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Buy rotating 360 time lapse timer.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2>Spare Battery, power bank and charger and spare battery cover<\/h2>\n<p>According to my tests, battery life of this camera is a bit over 2 hours in Full HD in 30fps. While this is not bad, compared to some other low budget Chinese action cameras, it is still not enough for plenty of people. If you want to stop worrying about your battery life, you should seriously consider two alternatives :<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"goods_info_inner\">Spare battery<\/li>\n<li class=\"goods_info_inner\">Power bank<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Xiaomi YI uses 1010mAh Li &#8211; ion removable battery that can be charged via the PC, AC charger or a USB wall charger. There are plenty of batteries that will fit into YI, but make sure to use ones that other people already tested and tried.<\/p>\n<p>You can <a href=\"http:\/\/shrsl.com\/?~9xwo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">buy a battery for Xiaomi Yi here<\/a>.<br \/>\nIf however, you do not like charging batteries all the time, and still need a longer recording time, power bank is a way to go. Since I am one of those people who care about design, I bought this 16000mAh battery, which in theory should be enough to charge up to 10 Yi cameras. Buying accessories will certainly make things easier, but it will also increase the total cost of the action camera. If you are on a budget and have enough time, some of the accessories can be done as a DIY weekend project, which will save you few bucks here and there.<\/p>\n<p>Even though most of the additional equipment for Xiaomi YI is quite cheap, once you start buying it will add up, so try to buy only the items you really need. There is no need to go crazy and buy every single item that says &#8220;for xiaomi yi&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, with the money you saved with DIY and go buy a bus ticket and go somewhere where you can create memorable videos.
